TSER APP - Privacy Policy

The information below is provided to fulfil Apple’s and Google’s requirements for the publication of apps on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Primary information collected

The TSER app collects information describing High Seas Transhipments in the Western and Central Pacific. The extent of this information is documented in the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission’s (WCPFC’s) E-Reporting standards for high seas transhipment declarations and high seas transhipment notices, as adopted by the Commission in December 2018. This information is entered by users of the app. When the user presses the app’s “Send to WCPFC” button or “Send update to WCPFC” button, this data is transmitted from the app to a central database held by the WCPFC Secretariat. 

Use of primary information

This information is used by the WCPFC Secretariat and Members, Cooperating Non- members and Participating Territories (CCMs); for the objective of the effective management, long-term conservation and sustainable use of highly migratory fish stocks in the western and central Pacific Ocean. 

Security and dissemination of primary information

The information collected is secured and disseminated in accordance with the WCPFC’s Rules and Procedures for the Protection, Access to, and Dissemination of Data Compiled by the Commission, as adopted by the Commission in December 2007 and Rules and Procedures for Protection Access to and Dissemination of High Seas Non-Public Domain Data and Information Compiled by the Commission for the Purpose of MCS Activities and Access to and Dissemination of High Seas VMS Data for Scientific Purposes, as adopted by the Commission in December 2009.

Secondary information

Additional information is collected describing the operation of the app.  This information is stored within the app’s internal local logfile. This information is only transmitted if the user selects the option to email the logfile to someone else, and is subsequently used for the purpose of identifying and correcting problems with the app (i.e. fixing bugs). 
Additional information is collected describing downloads of the app.  This information may be used by the WCPFC Secretariat for the purpose of indicating how useful the app is to CCMs, what enhancements to the app may be required, and what additional apps could be developed to benefit the Commission’s objectives.
