One of the Commission?s primary tasks is to establish and maintain a satellite-based vessel monitoring system (VMS) for fishing vessels authorized to fish in the Convention Area beyond national jurisdiction of the Commission Member whose flag the vessel is flying. At its second regular session in December 2005, the Commission adopted a recommendation by the first regular session of the Technical and Compliance Committee (TCC1) that the Commission Secretariat undertake further work during 2006 in respect of the Commission?s VMS, including a cost assessment and feasibility study of two options identified as offering the best potential to meet the Commission?s needs.
